Born in 1992, Olivier Marger began his musical education in Lille, France. He further continued his studies at Paris Conservatoire, the Musikhochschule Hanns Eisler Berlin with Prof. Stephan Forck, and later on at the Mendelssohn Academy in Leipzig. In addition, he has taken part in masterclasses with renowned musicians like Yoyo Ma, Philippe Muller, Eberhard Feltz, the Artemis Quartet, and the Juilliard String Quartet. 

 

His orchestral experience led him to play under international renowned conductors such as Andris Nelsons, Herbert Blomstedt, Nicola Luisotti, Marek Janowski, and Semyon Bychkov in orchestras around Europe such as the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg among others. In 2018, he received the award of the Samuel Mayes Memorial Prize. 

 

Passionate about chamber music, he plays regularly with inspiring artists like Julian Rachlin, Niklas Liepe, Beatrice Muthelet, Kolja Lessing, Norbert Kaiser, and is invited for famous festivals like the Tanglewood Music Festival, the Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz, the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele, the Mendelssohn Haus Leipzig, the Jeudis du Pasteur Bogotà and the Musethica Festival, among others.

In 2022, he recorded "Fraulein Else", the new piece of French composer Graciane Finzi, for the label Arion. 

 

Very committed in social actions, he plays charity concerts and works on projects to share music to new audiences.

 

Since 2020, Olivier is associate principal cellist at the State Opera Orchestra in Stuttgart, and a member of the Almaviva Cello Quartet . He plays a cello made by Urs Mächler in 2015.
